Program Description:

Academic Reputation

This university is part of the Baden-Württemberg/North Carolina statewide exchange program. The University of Hohenheim boast the #1 German university in Agriculture Research. This university is constantly being ranked as the top-tier in Germany, being ranked highly for academic excellence year after year. Formally a palace of the 18th century Duke Carol Eugene of Wurttemberg, a gift for his future wife, it is has been preserved and today is the location of the university.

Hohenheim is located just outside of Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Wurttemburg. Stuttgart is filled parks and green spaces for recreation and leisure, hosting one of the largest botanical gardens and zoos in Europe. Stuttgart is known for its manufacturing hub, hosting companies like Merceedes and Porsche.

Academics

Exchange student can select modules for all majors. Students are permitted to take courses according to their own interests, and not just their intended major. Most of the Bachelor courses are in German. For attending courses, at least average German language proficiency is required. 

The Master courses are held in German or English or are bilingual.

Internship

UNC students studying in Baden-Wuerttemberg for at least one semester have internship opportunities available in addition to their study abroad experience. This opportunity is offered through any of the nine research universities in Baden-Wuerttemberg to students in fields of study in: Business, Engineering, MIS, Technology, and other STEM subjects. Several time line options are offered:

Full-Time:
Studying abroad in BW for one semester (autumn/winter semester), followed by an internship in a company or a research internship at one of the 9 BW research universities.
Students who participate in this internship experience have the opportunity to receive payment, through either a scholarship from the Baden-Wuerttemberg Stiftung or a paid internship at a company.

Part-Time:
Studying abroad in BW for one semester (autumn/winter semester) and completing the research internship at one of the 9 BW research universities during the same semester with hours ranging from 10 to 15 per week. Payment: A scholarship by the Baden-Wuerttemberg Stiftung: amount variable (depending on working hours and length of the internship).

Depending on placement, German skills may be highly recommended. Students interested in the internship opportunity should speak with their study abroad advisor.
