This university is part of the Baden-Württemberg/North Carolina statewide exchange program. Founded in 1477, The University of Tubingen is one of Germany's most famous and oldest universities. IT is a leading research university an is listed among the best universities for the Humanities and Social Sciences. Located in the city of Tubingen, it is one of the 5 "classic college towns" of Germany

In 2011 the city had 89,000 inhabitants. Life in the city is dominated by its approximately 25,800 students. Tübingen is best described as a mixture of old and distinguished academic flair, including liberal and green politics on the one hand and traditional German-style student fraternities on the other, with rural-agricultural environs and shaped by typical Lutheran-Pietist characteristics, such as austerity and a Protestant work ethic, and traditional Swabian elements, such as frugality, order and tidiness. The city is home to many picturesque buildings from previous centuries and lies on the river Neckar.

Academics

Courses are available in both English and German. Only the International and European Studies program aligns with the UNC Charlotte Fall calendar, otherwise interested students should be looking to study in the Spring. 

Internship

UNC students studying in Baden-Wuerttemberg for at least one semester have internship opportunities available in addition to their study abroad experience. This opportunity is offered through any of the nine research universities in Baden-Wuerttemberg to students in fields of study in: Business, Engineering, MIS, Technology, and other STEM subjects. Several time line options are offered:

Full-Time:
Studying abroad in BW for one semester (autumn/winter semester), followed by an internship in a company or a research internship at one of the 9 BW research universities.
Students who participate in this internship experience have the opportunity to receive payment, through either a scholarship from the Baden-Wuerttemberg Stiftung or a paid internship at a company.

Part-Time:
Studying abroad in BW for one semester (autumn/winter semester) and completing the research internship at one of the 9 BW research universities during the same semester with hours ranging from 10 to 15 per week. Payment: A scholarship by the Baden-Wuerttemberg Stiftung: amount variable (depending on working hours and length of the internship).

Depending on placement, German skills may be highly recommended. Students interested in the internship opportunity should speak with their study abroad advisor.
